UniCredit has appointed Christian Steffens as UK country head, confirming its commitment to the country post Brexit.
Effective August 1, the role will also involve managing the London branch of the bank.
In his role as country head, Steffens will report to Gianfranco Bisagni, deputy head of corporate and investment banking. As London branch manager, he will report to Michael Diederich, head of corporate and investment banking in Germany.
Steffens has been with the bank since 2008, serving as global co-head of capital markets, head of equity capital markets and, most recently, global head of UniCredit’s financial institutions group.
Prior to that, he was a partner at Seitz & Partner and before that as head of the German speaking equity capital markets business at Lehman Brothers. Steffens has also held senior roles in the M&A divisions of Merrill Lynch and S.G. Warburg.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from University College London.
Steffens succeeds Ted Platt, who will take on a new role in UniCredit, which is yet to be announced.
Vincenzo Tortorici will take over from Steffens in the global head role from August 1. He is currently the global head of UniCredit’s corporate finance advisory.
